Natchez Historic Tableaux
From the French tableaux vivant a living picture; a representation of a scene, by a person or group in costume, posing silently without moving. Before the age of modern technology, this was a popular form of entertainment in private homes, theaters, and schools and continued into the 20th century.
The first tableaux in Natchez was put on for tourists in 1932. The show was then, and remains so now, an all-volunteer production. Over the years, the Natchez Garden Club and the Pilgrimage Garden Club have worked together to make the Tableaux more inclusive and historically accurate. This 84 year old tradition offers a peek into the past and a greater understanding of the people and events that have shaped nearly 300 years of Natchez history. We hope you enjoy being part our journey toward a fuller understanding of Mississippi's rich and instructive history.
